RUN72 is nearly here! From sign-ups to lap lengths, our FAQ has everything you need to know.
Kia ora team,
Can you believe it? We’re just one week out from the start of RUN72, our annual 72-hour fundraising challenge right here at UC, backed by Lads Without Labels, and Tavendale and Partners. Whether you’re running, walking, supporting from the sidelines, or just curious about what on earth “RUN72” is, we’ve pulled together this handy FAQ to get you prepped. So lace up, and let’s get into it!
“What is RUN72?”
RUN72 is our yearly community event raising funds and awareness for men’s mental health. For 72 hours straight, UC students and the wider Christchurch community keep the loop alive, making sure there’s always at least one person out there on the course. It’s all about showing up, standing together, and keeping the conversation around mental health running.
“When is it?”
Mark your calendars, 23 September at 4 PM is when we kick off, and we’re not stopping until 26 September at 4 PM. That’s three full days of energy, support, and plenty of laps.
“Do you have to run?”
Nope! You can run, jog, walk, bike, or get creative and do it your own way. It’s completely up to your imagination! It’s participation, not pace. Just keep yourself and the people around you safe. And yes, your furry friends can come along for a trot too (just keep them on a leash).
“Where do I start from?”
Every lap starts and finishes on the concrete path in front of C-Block Lawn. Easy as.
“How long is the course?”
One lap is about 1.8 km, and you can do as many as you like. Check out the course map below to see the full loop.
“Do I need to count my own laps?”
You don’t need to worry about counting your own laps; we’ve got that covered. One of our exec members will be on lap counting duty. All you need to do is run past the big Lads tent each lap, where the team will be stationed and ready to count your lap.
“Where do the funds go?”
This year, we’re aiming to raise $100,072 to boost our Lads Without Labels support fund and fuel our mahi into 2026 and beyond. Every $150 raised = one hour with professional support services (Counsellors, Psychologists, and more). Together, that adds up to real impact.
“Do I have to sign up?”
Not compulsory, but highly encouraged! Head to www.run72.co.nz (or scan the QR code) to register. You can sign up solo, join a team, or run under your organisation. Once you’re in, you’ll be able to track both your laps and your donations. We’ll also be posting a step-by-step guide to make signing up a breeze.
“What else is going on?”
It’s not just laps, but you’ll have to see for yourself! C-Block Lawn will be buzzing with music, kai, activities, and good vibes all 72 hours long. Pop down between classes to smash out a lap, or just chill, chat, and soak up the atmosphere.
“What should I bring?”
Whatever you like! All we recommend are comfy running/walking shoes, weather-appropriate gear, and a water bottle.
We can’t wait to see you out there, helping us keep the loop alive for the full 72 hours. Thanks for being part of the movement. Together, we’re making a real difference.
Ngā mihi,
The Lads Without Labels whānau 💙🏃♂️
