At Lads Without Labels, we provide a safe and supportive space for students to express themselves and seek guidance without the fear of judgment or stereotypes.

We understand that everyone's journey is unique, and we strive to help individuals navigate their emotional well-being with empathy and respect.

BENESTAR

Lads has partnered with Benestar to deliver an additional free counselling option for UC students.

Benestar helps connect people with professional counsellors. Counselling provides a confidential environment where you can openly discuss your concerns, challenges, and aspirations. We believe in empowering individuals to develop healthy coping mechanisms, improve self-awareness, and build resilience. Benestar has counselling clinicians covering over 20 different languages.

Any information you share with Benestar will remain anonymous.

SUPPORT WITH BENESTAR

Seek personal support with Benestar.

  • Call Benestar at 0800 360 364. A member of Benestar’s team will receive your call.
  • Start by letting them know you are a student at the University of Canterbury and you have been referred by Lads Without Labels.
  • You will be asked a few questions about yourself and what kind of support you need.
  • Benestar will refer you to a counsellor.
  • After you are referred, the cost of your first two counselling sessions will be automatically covered by the Lads Without Labels Counselling Fund.

HELP A MATE

Help a friend receive support through Benestar

If somebody you know is struggling, and they’ve given consent for you to share their phone number, you can arrange for Benestar to reach out and offer support to your mate.

  • Call Benestar at 0800 360 364.
  • Start by letting them know you are a seeking to refer a friend who is a student at the University of Canterbury and that you have been referred by Lads Without Labels.
  • Provide your mate’s phone number.
  • The team at Benestar will confirm they’ve received your request, and will try call your mate to arrange further support.

In addition to the offering from Lads Without Labels and Benestar, there are several alternative support services available.

  • Gumboot Friday: Offers two free counselling sessions to under 25’s across New Zealand.
  • CALM: An online programme for building mental health resilience.
  • Youthline: Information on a wide range of topics related to well-being for young people.
